About Dr. Kathrin Schulman and Raised Grounded

Hi,

I’m Katie (Bracha).

Raised Grounded is a place to learn about learning and the development of children and parents that’s based on research, nature, and ancient wisdom to guide you in making decisions for your own family. It’s just getting started, so check back regularly for updates.

My whole career over the past 15+ years has been in education. So I’ve spent a lot of time in my life thinking about learning and development. Yet when I became a mom, I found that I was ill-prepared for where it mattered most: at home!

When I became a mom, my whole world changed. My heart opened in ways I never dreamed. There’s such joy in being a mom. And it comes with some challenges, too.  I knew I wanted to do and be everything I could for my child.

I love learning, so I dived in. What I soon realized is that so much of the current culture surrounding parenting and the information parents get bombarded with are confusing and not based on what’s good for a child – or the parents. Yet, there are also tons of helpful research studies and other resources out there. So, I’ve started using the skills I’ve acquired over years in academia to explore these topics: look at the scientific evidence, think deeply about issues, question assumptions and draw practical conclusions.

One of the most valuable pieces of advice I received as a new mom was to trust my intuition. Every child is different.

As an educator, it’s my nature to share what I learn with others. You can subscribe to the mailing list, check out the latest blog posts, or follow Raised Grounded on Facebook.  I also welcome any suggestions on topics you are interested in knowing more about.

What are my credentials?

When reading an education or parenting website, you want to know who’s behind it. What are their credentials? So here goes.

In the academic world, I have 2 master’s degrees and a doctorate, and I hold teacher certification in 2 countries.  I’ve done a lot of education-related research projects, academic publications, and volunteering.  Since teaching my first teacher education class in 2007, I’ve held various positions in that field.

Currently, I’m teaching university-level online courses for teachers at the FHNW in Switzerland as an independent contractor. I also do end-of-bachelor and end-of-master exams and advise students doing their master’s thesis. Moreover, I am part of the Doppeltür research and development project.
